I use a generic brand of heartworm medicine, it's supposed to be just like Heartguard, BUT I get it from a vet.... it's called Iverhart. I wouldn't trust Walmart.
You know, I haven't thought about it. I do find some ticks on them usually during our walks, we live near a wooded area on the water, so we get alot of moist areas that ticks seem to like alot. But I can't remember the last time I removed an engorged tick off any of my dogs. I have removed a few that had recently latched on, maybe 2-3 in the last 2 years, so I would have to say yes, it's working. I do check them after walks, especially giving heads, ears and muzzles the most attention.
