I would only ever use anything like that from my vet... I know of dogs who reacted badly to the cheaper stuff and sadly died from it. Too big of a risk for me to chance knowing that, just to save a few dollars. I'd swap out my steak dinners for spaghetti to make up the difference before I would take a chance on flea products...

Another way to save money: I use Revolution, and I asked my vet to prescribe the 85-130 lb size, and she figured out the doses for me to use on my 3 cats and 4 dogs. I bought a special vial to store leftovers in online, and just measure out individual doses for everyone once a month. One 6 month package was $109.00, and I have enough to treat my household for 2 years. It prevents Heartworm too, so I save there by only having to use one product for HW, fleas, ticks, and mites.
