AKC requires a bit more than a check. The breeder must have had to register the litter and the only way she could have done that is if both parents were AKC registered. This is the only way the breeder could have received individual Registration Papers for each pup.

Yes, I too have heard of some breeders passing off another pup (non AKC) from another litter into an AKC litter. However, all one needs to do is report it and an investigation will be conducted (DNA).
