I used to use a carseat , But I feel more comfortable using a crate for my stinkers to travel in. I have never had issues with the wire crates getting hot. I use them in the summer and in the winter time I use the plastic crates. I also put a piece of non slip matting that you use for cupboards and drawers in the bottom of the crate so the bedding inside doesn't slip around
