I would do it as it gives me a better chance than I would have of getting my Tibbe back home should he ever get lost. Tibbe was chipped when I first got him and never acts like there is anything in there. I can't feel it and he's not sensitive anywhere it is supposed to be. I can't see any down side to it but I see a great up side.
