Hang in there. If he has a Liver Shunt or MVD it's not a death sentence, just gotta get to the bottom of it and onto the right path.

Yes, low protein diet (RC Heaptic LS 14) is a good choice. Lactulose is great too! He may need to be on it daily and perhaps with a low dose of antib's as well.

Feeding 5 to 6 small meals a day (spread out) and lots of water help to control the HE episodes. If he refuses to eat, Children's Vanilla Pedisure w/fiber helps to maintain them until they start to feel better and want to eat the kibble.
