I have to use a Pill Popper on Tink as she cannot eat anything with her Denamarin. She's gotten very good about taking meds, occasionally spits one out but not often (more my fault than hers, lol). I found the pill pockets too big and they want to chew them, and as mentioned, some pills/capsules need to be swallowed.
With the Pill Popper, I like it bc she doesn't have to open her mouth real wide, only about 1/4 inch, just enough for me to slide the tube in to the back of her throat. Her first month on medication was a bit stressful for us both, but once we got the hang of it there's been no problems or stress involved. (I get my Pill Poppers from my vet... better quality and rubber tipped instead of hard plastic.
My second fav is baby food meats, but for a difficult pup the med can start to dissolve, until they get used to taking it that way. |
