Yep, or you can just do this, that way you're sure in goes down and he won't chew it. Basically just tip his head back, put the pill
all the way in the back of his throat, as far as you can get it, then keep his mouth closed with your hand. You'll know he swallowed it when he licks his nose.

If he won't swallow, gently rub his throat while still holding his head back and his mouth closed. It's not as bad as it sounds

I have to do this with my beagle twice a day for her thyroid medication and she's so used to me doing it before I give her meals, I'm waiting for her to just open her mouth up for me one of these days LOL.
