Things to consider; Does your dog come from great lines does the breeder know every dog within that pedigree backward and forward. You will have to have the required tests performed on the dog (upward to $500.00); it's something every reputable breeder does prior to breeding. You will have to have the dog assessed by a knowledgable yorkie breeder and/or judge to insure the dog is a good representation of the breed.
You mentioned keeping the line going; what does this mean to you? Is there a certain look to the dogs, does this line produce great representations of the breed? If yes, that's wonderful, however to continue the process you'll have to study, attend genetic classes , attend breeding classes to learn the ins and outs of breeding and breeding the right dogs.
