You want to see a specific meat as the very first ingredient (not just "meat meal"). Make sure there's no corn or corn gluten or corn meal. If it has grains you want them to be WHOLE grains. Also look for some fruits and veggies in there (I always do anyway) and plenty of vitamins and minerals. As far as one that's affordable, usually the "grain free" ones are more expensive and you don't necessarily have to go that route. Certain brands tend to be more costly too if they do a ton of advertising and fancy packaging (such as Blue Buffalo - great food but I think it's priced way too high because of all the advertising). The ones that I found that tend to be more reasonably priced are Verus, Nature's Variety Prairie, Evenger's...there's many more but you'll have to explore and compare. Like others have said though, if you have a picky eater, sometimes they choose for you.
I'd look through the "natural" section at your local Petco and read labels and compair prices. You will pay more for better quality ingredients, but Yorkie's don't eat much and you feed less of a better food anyway, so cost tends to balances out.
