Boy, talking about mixing the giant with the dwarf. Sure makes one a nervous mother, huh? I myself have a Yorkie and an Australian Shepherd (which sheds like freakin crazy....so definitely not an option for you) and they play great together. I don't leave them alone though. The Yorkie is so persistent in his playing that you never know when the Aussie will get his fill. I was going to give my vote for the Boxer. I left a store yesterday and there was one sitting in the front seat of a car and he looked so handsome. Such a loveable face. If I wouldn't have already got the Aussie then I would have gotten a Boxer. The funny thing is that I read this post yesterday and just never got a chance to post a reply. I came home yesterday and lo and behold to my belief there was a Boxer who wandered up to our house. No tags, no collar, nothing!!!!! I'm not really sure where he lives either. I once took home a dog that looked similar but I think it was a different sex. That lady was not friendly at all. First said it wasn't her dog, never seen it before, then said it belonged to the lady behind her and then that lady was her sister-in-law. So I don't know quite what to do yet. He is friendly but scared me to death because he looked at my Yorkie and I panicked. So I can understand your fear.
