I'm new to Yorkies (and dogs in general). I have a past with horses and cats so I am familiar with the care of animals and yes, the vets bills and expenses that come with animals. I have a 1000 pound pasture ornament that costs us several hundred a month to keep, but I wouldn't have it any other way. The old man deserves his semi-retirement and will live out his days in leisure.

My pets are forever pets, so I want to do the research correct to make sure I get a good dog for my family. My 23 year old horse, which I purchased when he was 1, is now my 4 year old daughter's first horse and he is absolutely perfect for her. That's what I hope to find in a yorkie for my family, the perfect dog that we can all love and enjoy.

I'm starting my search for a Yorkie in the area and I found one breeder that is not too far from me but currently they do not have any yorkies available. Any advice on where to look or does anyone know of anyone in the area that has available yorkies?

I'm hoping to find something a little older and already potty trained. Disclaimer: I have young children, 2 and 4. They have both been exposed to smallish dogs from day one. They are still supervised when they are around animals because they are little kids and they do the weird things that little kids do and until they stop doing the weird things that little kids do they will not interact with the dog without supervision. I want everyone to be safe and the only way to ensure the dog and kids are safe is to supervise.

I've signed up for a rescue/adoption email listing, but understandably most rescues do not want to adopt small dogs to a family with little kids. So I've come to the conclusion that I will have to purchase a yorkie, which I don't have a problem with, it's not like the yorkies are free from the rescue groups.

I am hoping to find something by beginning of June as I have promised my daughter we will have a puppy by her birthday.

And if you are wondering why a Yorkie - I'm allergic to lots of stuff so I need something that does not shed. And truth be told, I know someone who has some Yorkies (does not breed, just pets) and I love them and so do my kids and most importantly, my husband!

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
