They're made from airline wire, so the stuff that holds the plane you fly in together is what the beads are strung on. Unlikely it'll ever break from the pull of a small dog or an obedient larger dog.
Definitely strong enough. I have several colors + pearls. Get lots of compliments when walking the dogs. They are not that "comfortable" of a feel though - but since we don't walk that much I'm probably just not use to the different 'feel'. (a little heavy and not as flexible like a 'regular' leash)
The length is great, but I don't let my dogs pull ahead, they walk beside or very near me mostly for safety's sake.
