The same thing happened to me when my Dad died. A close "friend" told me to "get over it" and I would ruin my kids if I kept crying. Needless to say I am not friends with her anymore.
As far as people making cruel remarks about our pets, you have to try your best to ignore them and I actually feel sorry for people like that because they have never known the love of a pet. They have no idea at all. They just don't understand.
