Not trying to be critical or rude so please take it in kindness, as a woman who has been divorced (I am remarried happily now) I would take it as a real concern if your BF is irritated at the amount of time you spend with your dog because if you should decide to have kids the time you have to spend with them will be 100 fold. I had an ex that had this issue which is why it jumped out at me.
As to the crate issue, I honestly have no idea why she wants to stay there other than that is what she is used to for most of her day/night. I would suggest putting it in another room so she can't access it as easily in the evenings when you want to be with her.
As for the spanking, I have no idea what to say. We raised a malawolf (part alaskan malamute/timber wolf) and never had to spank him. He had a will that was out of this world. I would do some research on positive reinforcement training and read over the article that the poster above me linked to you. Great strides have been made in dog psych so there is a real reason to study up on it in order to make you the happy family you are dreaming of.
Best of luck to you and your furbaby.
