I have two of mine on Sentinel (because they will not eat the Heartgard) and they have been on it for three years without any problems.

For my others I always used Heartgard and Advantage. Honestly, I have not been using Advantage for some time since I never see any fleas. Lucky me because I have friends who are always battling those things.
