I just earlier today went to the Library here and saw 3 videos on coughing. Each cough was very distinctive from the other. Why don't you try to go there and look up "kennel cough, reverse sneezing and collapsed trachea" or some such arrangement of those terms just to see what the kennel cough really sounds like. The kennel cough was evocative of a child's whooping cough sound to me. Is that what your little guy's sounds like?
