Thanks for your concern. No, after talking to the vet we don't think it's his age. He is only 5 1/2 to 6. He is very excitable, was a lot more so when we first got him. The first time we took him to the vet and he saw other dogs he screamed/barked for 30 solid minutes so bad our vet said he thought a dog had been hit by a car until he asked. Doc laughingly called him squeeky and said he knew I would have him acting a lot better by our second visit. And he did act better when hubby dropped him off, although DH said he was whimpering a little, which he has never done before. It's so hard when you don't know them very well yet.
Doc said he expected him to be noisy in the cage but he was very quiet, then when they took him out he struggled very hard. When they tried to comfort him he just started shaking, turned cyanotic and went limp. Doc said he was so relieved to hear Angus's heartbeat and would not have wanted to call us had it not turned out so well.
We all agree it's probably separation anxiety and I will stay with him for all procedures from here on out. I had a doberman I couldn't leave so I always stayed for his dentals and things, although in that case it was more me than him I think. I probably pass my neurosis off to my furbabies.
All I know is when my husband opened the front door and put Angus down he came tearing through the house and jumped into my lap and looked me right in the eyes for a few seconds. I made over him a lot, gave him treats and he's sleeping happily right now on my lap. We are both very happy.
