I would advise being consistent. If your pup is going to have access to a pad at home part of the day, she should always have access to a pad. I think it would be very confusing to have a pad available only sometimes. It would be extra confusing to combine crate training, outdoors, and pad. |
I agree. Too much going on all at once. When Kaji came home he was 1 and fully outdoor trained. I just helped with his marking habit and kept consistency so he knew when his next potty break would be. Once he knew that, and our needs changed, I introduced the pad. He has 1 pad in the house which works for us because he can hold it long enough to walk to it without having accidents. But, when we're at a friend's house, he will ask to be let out like he did when we had that option. If I'm busy, Kaji has even learned to find the pee pads my friend's dog uses. It really is a win win for us both. Kaji prefers to do his business outside, but when he doesn't have that option he does settle for the pads.
