I specifically chose to have a male and female because I heard they "fall into their roles" a lot easier. Both are neutered/spayed and they get along fabulously.

I've heard that having two females can be a challenge because fights tend to break out more. Then I heard spaying them might lessen that. My sister had two females (not spayed) - a french bulldog and a jack russell. They got along most of the time but when they fought, they drew blood. It got to the point that my sister had to rehome her frenchie.
