When I go into a store, I try to pay in cash. I only give dollar bills and I'll take the change and save it up in a jar. You'd be surprised how much change really does add up after awhile. I've been known to get a couple hundred dollars worth of change. I also try to buy items on saleus another grocery store run. only. When I go grocery shopping I make a list of the meals I intend to prepare for the next two weeks and do a quick inventory of my cabinets. I only go into the store for the items I need that are on my list. Without a game plan, I'll end up with a bunch of things I don't need and I'll probably need something else later on to make some recipe that I decide to make out of the blue, thus another trip to the grocery store, which means more gas and I'd probably end up walking out with more things I don't need.
