Mary-Alice, the owner of Dog Jaunt : Traveling with a small dog has a 13lb Cavalier KC Cocker Spaniel who travels everywhere with her. If it weren't for her, Cooper and I would never have been able to travel. I struggled with information.
What airline are you taking, or have you not decided? |
Yes! My 12 lb yorkie (very tall and lean), Rory, has flown with me 4 times this year alone. Lane is about 10 lbs and she has flown at least 5 times. Of course, they are too large to share a carrier, so my fiance carries one of the girls when we both travel. For our most recent trip, we finally bought the Sherpa carriers in a medium, and they are wonderful (and cheap to compared to what we have spent in the past)! We have Juicy, Coach and Pet Flys carriers and honestly for the "larger" dogs, I think the Sherpas are the way to go since they don't need to be rotated onto their side to slide under the seat.

When we first got the Sherpa carriers, I opened them up and laid them on the floor in our living room where I found them both curled up inside and sleeping several times.
When we traveled over Christmas, I actually saw a smaller French Bulldog in a large size Sherpa!
