It sounds like you've already gotten some good advice. I used Bitter Apple with my girls. Because Ashley was so stubborn, it took a few times for it to stop her. My father was working with a trainer who told him that Bitter Yuck works better than Bitter Apple. I haven't used it, but with how loving and careful my father's wife is with their dogs, I'm sure she wouldn't use it if it could harm them in any way.
