I think you handled yourself perfectly. I don't think i would have been so nice!
It is better to be safe than sorry so picking up your little one when a big dog comes over is always appropriate especially when she is so little. With 5, i keep my in a stroller or in my ams unless i know the people and the dogs they are around. I think everyone was just jealous of your precious little one!
