I bought both of my Yorkies from Carrie in January 2008. I was looking for her website to recommend it to a friend who is interested, but I couldn't remember the name of the site. I googled her name and this website came up. I read through the posts and see all these horror stories and 1 positive post. I'm posting now because I only now discovered this website, and felt that it would only be fair to relate my experience.
First off, when I first spoke to Carrie it was the day after my other Yorkie was attacked and killed by a pit bull. The Yorkie I saw on her website wasn't yet available and wouldn't be for 1-2 weeks, but I met up with her to see some others she had available. I bought one of them (I renamed him Jack), and a week later I bought the one I'd originally seen on the website (I renamed him Bailey). Jack is the largest Yorkie I've ever had, and Bailey is the smallest. I learned from talking to Carrie that she is not a breeder, but a broker and uses several different breeders; so I understood the whole "matchmaker" thing.
Jack and Bailey are great dogs, my best friends. I love them to death. I paid $850 for each. Bailey was a month younger and listed for more than that, but she gave me a discount because I bought 2 puppies from her. Jack is a month older and from different parents than Bailey, and the two have very different personalities from each other.
The day I went to see Jack, she said it was his first time to ride in a car (we met in a location near her home that I was familiar with) and Jack got sick and vomited and pooped in his crate. She said she wasn't going to show him to me, but I insisted. She also brought a chubby but very sweet puppy named Pirate. Both were adorable but Jack (poop and vomit notwithstanding) was the one I wanted. I came back the next day and bought him. A week later, she called me to tell me Bailey was ready if I still wanted him. Bailey was having some trouble with diarrhea and she had a vet check him out. The vet prescribed some Flagyl which she gave to me to give him until it cleared up. The problem cleared up in about 2 days.
Carrie also gave us a 5lb bag of food (Royal Canin) and all the appropriate paperwork, plus Bailey's Flagyl.
The only health issue I've had since was an eye infection Bailey got last summer, which cleared up with antibiotics. Both dogs get regular vet checkups and shots, and both are healthy.
I'm not doubting anyone here who says that they've had a bad experience, all I ask is that you don't doubt my positive experience either. I find it hard to believe when someone says Carrie promised them about the dog's size, because I asked her about the whole "teacup Yorkie" thing I've seen on websites, and she directed me to a page on her website that addressed the fallacy of the "teacup Yorkie". But if you say she did, then I'll take your word at face value.
By the way, I'm not Carrie (I'm a man!), I'm not a family member of hers, and we don't hang out together. I haven't discussed this posting with her, and was never asked to do this. I'm simply relating my experience with her. The only times I've talked to her was when I emailed her an update on my boys. She invited me to come for a photo shoot to put on her website, but I could not attend that day. I would've gladly attended if I could.
My advice to anyone looking to buy a dog is to do your own homework and research. Meet with the person who is making the sale and check out the dogs before you buy them. Don't just go by what you see on a website like this; use it as a starting point to know what questions to ask for yourself or the things to look for. People don't often post the positive experiences, only the negative ones. My experience was positive, and felt it was only fair to let others know about it since so many others are here bashing the Sawyers.
But don't take my word for it; check things out for yourself. If you don't like what you see with Carrie, then try someone else. But trust your own judgement before you trust someone else's, including mine.
