I'm gonna second cornstarch I use it on my best friends Maltese.
I just sprinkle it on and then rub it into the Mat and work it through with my fingers, It normally loosens right up and Then I take the pin brush and brush the mat out if It is really stubborn I will use the comb If the mat does not loosen sprinkle some more on.
