  I do this but add a couple teaspoons or so of vinegar in the cold water in the pan (with vinegar your eggs will never crack in the boiling water)...bring to a boil, boil 10 minutes...turn off burner and when boiling stops immediately run cold water over eggs (to stop the cooking process)...leave the pan of cold water and eggs sitting in the sink for 10 minutes and then peel. Leave them sit too long or not long enough makes them hard to peel.
