My apologies... I seem to have left out the obvious... Bloodwork. This would probably be done first, or along with a urinalysis. Usually a General Panel (CBC and Chemistries)(these tests may be named differently at different clinics) to access the overall state of health of your dog. Your vet may decide to add other blood tests to that depending on what is found on the initial exam.

FYI: Never agree to vaccinate a dog thet is not 100% feeling good. If your pup is not acting right, just agree to come back in a week or two, but go ahead and make the appointment to do it. (If I come back within a month for anything related to the original problem, or a postponed vaccine, my vet will either not charge for the second office visit or will charge me at a reduced 're-check' rate. (JMHO)
