I understand, believe me, I've been doing my research. Ripken was twisted and turned and poked and they couldn't find ANY pain. So there isn't really one instance of trauma per say (they suspect if it was one instance he would have pain associated with it) - but yes, he is 3lbs and is the smallest of 3 dogs in our house - one other dog is 5lbs and one is 15lbs - he sees them both jump on and off furniture and so (even though he has stairs) sometimes decides to jump on and off. No horrible lands that I know of, but it is quite possible. Even with this ice storm here - I guess he could have twisted something. It's been really hard b/c I'm trying to make the decisions that are right for him, and it is breaking my heart to see him this way. However, he isn't in any pain, his spirits are up, he plays a little, chews on his toys, etc. Nothing is different other than his back legs - no difficulties w/ bathroom, no scratching, same appetite/fluid intake, same personality, etc. I'm baffled. They said it's neurologic in nature and would have to be properly diagnosed by Dr. Shueler. I am prepared, if he gets worse in any way, to make the emergency call, but as of now, I'm going to not let my eyes off of him (he goes EVERYWHERE w/ me) and take the best care of him I can. I have been video taping anything and everything for Dr. Schuelers reference on monday, so he can see what exactly the symptoms are for himself. Thank you for your concern - any of the cases you mentioned would be helpful for me to read - thanks!

I'm so glad your vets have recommended a specialist for your baby. I think a good vet is one who knows when to refer out vs. keeping the case (and the business). I am sure you will have all your questions answered. I have been to many specialists with my dogs and I always feel like I get all the answers I seek. I hope you come back to update us.
