I told you all about Sadie being in heat and how I was keeping Scooter and her in different areas of the house, walking at different times, outside at different times and so on. The day of the move I trusted a family member to keep them for me until we got in the new house, one day, thats all I left them for and now I fear Sadie may be pregnant. I am so upset that I could hurt this family member. How is it possible that I managed to keep them apart for 4 weeks and they could not do it for one day after they told me they could. I wonder if this was not done on purpose because this family member always talks about how she would love to have a small dog like Sadie or Scooter and maybe she thought I would give her one of the puppies, isnt that awful that I am thinking this way? I feel like such a bad Mommy. What do I do now? I am so lost at this whole thing. Why did she have to go in heat right before her spay appointment? I am just at a total loss here. Please someone help me figure out what to do. I fear to have her fixed now because I heard that is dangerous and I fear for her to have any puppies because she is so young so what do I do? How do I know if she is pregnant? someone help me please.

Alright when did Sadie go in heat? Usually vets want to wait for 4-6 wks after heat finishes to spay.
If the vet you usually use says to spay her now a higher risk, then inquire more as to why he/she feels that way. ONce you understand their thoughts, then you want a comparative risk assessment of having this puppy of yours have pups herself. (I'm assuming that she is still a puppy ie; under one year old or so). And quite frankly if she is small, young, and with an inexperienced breeder the risks are very large. Besides which you don't want puppies, and you as the owner have full right to make spay decisions yourself. If your current vet is uninformative, or uncomfortable with spaying her, then ask for a referral either from them or from your other friends who utilize vets in your city.
There is no guarantee that your Sadie is pregnant, and did this family member of yours actually see them tie?

JMO but if you do decide to go ahead and let her have puppies, that irresponsible family member would not be getting a puppy. Her judgement was appalling, and a breach of the trust you placed in her.
