Hopefully, a breeder will chime in, but according to my knowledge you CAN do an emergency spay even if they are pregnant. I'm not sure if it is higher risk or not though. However, even if it is higher risk you have to weigh it against the risk of pregnancy and having pups... that is not smooth sailing either. I hope others have more advice for you.
I'm sorry your family member was so irresponsible and I know you must be furious. I know you did your best to keep your baby safe. It is hard not to be mad at someone for jeopardizing all that, perhaps even for their own personal gain. I don't blame you for snapping at them and being angry. I would be too.
