I have not had any problems with Remy -- except when we go for a car ride. But... my shih tuz had terrible anxiety issues. He will not let anyone pet him (out of his family-- who he is very loving toward). I had a bad icident at a dog park.. he got so afraid that he planted himself between my feet and defended me against every dog that came near. I am sure I transmitted my nerves to him (not fun seeing your little shih tuz stand up to a 100 lb dog!!) I have been working on socialization and it has gotten some better.
So it seams the advice given is great.. just like a baby who falls and looks around to see if anyone is watching before he cries.. a lot of behavior is learned from how we react.
