One of mine also has a chronic cough, and I can cause him to cough even when I pick him up if any pressure is put where his throat meets his upper chest area... also where most harnesses touch him. Also he makes a definite hacking sound at the end of each coughing episode. I did notice improvement when he was on Doxycycline for pneumonia, and my vet suggested just to give him that when I felt it may be getting worse. She did the chest xray, which included his neck... well his whole body, and if he has a trachea problem, it's where his trachea meets his bronchii at the top of his lungs.

It won't hurt to finish the Albon, your vet may just be trying different meds which they do sometimes, instead of more expensive tests. I'm not saying this is right or wrong, it is a method some use, is all.

Was his mouth checked for any foreign type stuff like hair that can get stuck in their throat occassionally... Other than that, if it doesn't clear up in 2 months or so, or gets worse at any time, I would persue further testing on him. IMHO.
Thank you so much for your response. I know that it is important to find a vet that you can trust, however I've had not so great experiences with the first two that now I'm skeptical of anything this current vet says. So far, I think I am happy with him but I am not 100% confident although I'm sure it will get better with time. However, in the mean time that is why I like to come here to ask for advice because not only is Teddy my first yorkie he is my first dog in general. I have not heard Teddy cough in the past three days, however I am keeping a close eye on him to make sure that it has in fact gone completely away. I am not sure if it is as a result of the medicine or if it coincides that his cough was already subsiding, but I will continue to administer the medicine for the 10 days the vet suggested. Again, I really appreciate your response it definitely made me feel a lot better about Teddy's health.
