I got my first Yorkie because a friend of a friend had one and I loved the size. I knew nothing about the breed except it was small. I got her from a byb and she lived for 16 years with no health problems. The first time I took her to the groomer I was shocked out of my mind. She handed me a puppy that I didn't even recognize. I had brought in a black puppy and this puppy was gold and black. I really had no idea that they did not stay all black like when they are born. I knew nothing about their personalities or history of medical problems. The breeder handed me the puppy showed me what she was feeding her and that was it. I never had contact with the breeder again till 18 years later when I was looking for another. Ember lived a long and healthy life with a stupid owner who knew only how much she loved her. So it is possible give a yorkie a great home without knowing a whole lot. Of course this was many, many years ago. I only learned all of the information regarding yorkies when I joined YT which wasn't too long ago and that was after owning 3 yorkies.
