Default Here's how I trained Max.

Pee was easy. He seemed to get that pretty quickly using the normal confinement/watch carefully/praise when he went on the pad. Still there were some accidents. He is a little shy about going, so it was kind of hard to catch him going and praise him. But I think this was the key: Any time there was an accident off pad, I'd ignore it from Max's point of view. No annoyance, no pointing it out, no reaction at all. Then I'd use the pad to soak it up and put the pad back in it's place. (if it was poop, I'd just move the poop to the pad) Then about 2 minutes later, I'd walk to the pad (he usually followed me - if not I'd bring him) and go for the whole excited/praise/happy dance/whatever along with giving him a treat. It only took him 2 days to figure out that pee or poop on the pad got him a treat and there were no more accidents. Worked with Bella too a year later when she joined the family.
