A video is not a bad idea either.... When did he begin coughing... had he been around other dogs or get any vaccinations close to that time? How long has he been coughing? Does he cough more at any specific times, like after eating or drinking, when he's barking and excited, after/during strenuous exercise, at rest, or at play? |
The coughing started after he got vaccinated about a month ago. It might just be a coincidence though. The first time I took him to the vet because of the cough the vet massaged his throat and noticed that he would start coughing--he thought the sensitivity might be due to bronchitis and so he prescribed amoxicillin. After administering amoxicillin for 10 days he still coughs which is why I went a second time to the vet. While we were there he coughed in his presence (when he was going to the back to get a fecal) and so the vet said that he thinks that he coughs when he is excited since he didn't cough at all during the visit except for when he stepped out back. He also massaged his throat like he did last time except this time he did not cough as a response to the massage. What I do not understand is why he would prescribe that medication if he thought it was just due to excitement. If it is due to excitement then the medication is useless. He usually coughs sometimes after drinking water, and usually its when he's playing. I've heard him coughing too while at rest. At most I hear him cough 1-2 a day. I know that it is not reverse sneezing because I watched all the videos when I first started to hear him cough. It was not a honking cough, it was not that gagging noise from sneezing, it just sounds like a deep cough which only occurs once or twice and then I don't hear him again. I've noticed that he also coughs when he pulls on his easy harness.
