I believe dogs cry too. I noticed my oldest one ,Sara will have real tears coming down her face if she can't go out with the other ones. She will stand at the door ( doggy door ) and make the darndest noise ( sort of snuffling ) and her face will be wet with tears by the time they come in. I only do this to her when she is in the last stages of pregnacy and since she is now 5 yrs old and retired , it doesn't happen anymore. Spencer ,my poodle is prone to gastro upsets that seem to cause him severe distress until the pepto or kaopectate work and during that time he whimpers and has tears running, so yes I think they cry also when sad or lonely.
