As another poster indicated, for now, and to help Chuchi adjust to the pups - treat him like the KING. Greet him first; feed him first; treat him first; up on the bed first; leash him first . . you get the picture. Let him know that he has not lost his status in your house. This will help him not be jealous. Try not to pay more attention to the new, little puppies, then you do to Chuchi. (I know this is hard).
Chuchi also needs a 'puppy free' zone where he can have some favorite toys or bones and not be bothered by young puppies constantly pestering him. |
Thanks Ringo! I'm trying to do this. Chuchi is getting the "special attention" and I play with him more and greet him more than the new boys for now. His bed and crate are SUPPOSED to be his pestering puppy free zone, but last nights drama with Papi pissing in his bed to mark territory while I left them in the room for 5 minutes didn't help. This is pretty tricky
After Papi did what he did I gave him a 5 minute time out and made him understand not to invade Chuchi's special spots.
What I'm waiting for now is for the 3 to interact. The new pups play a lot together but Chuchi seems to want nothing to have to do with them. I'm hoping this will become more fun soon
I can't take the 3 to to park yet because the pups still need their last shot on Jan 25
