Well I have to admit that I chuckled when I read your statement about him peeing in the water dish.
My little boy use to do that. He stopped it when I bought the kind that mounts on the side of the crate. He can't "get it up there" to pee in it so he uses the pad I provided. I honestly think he was doing it to contain it.

So you might check out those style of containers.

I just got tired of having to disenfect his dish twice a day (at least).
