LOL . . . I have put a humongous amount of items in my washer that were in places that will remain un-named. Companies who specialize in cleaning and sanitizing products have grown have made fortunes off of the moto; "cleanliness is next o godliness."

Baking powder, peroxide, soap, lemon, vinegar, rose petals rt other flowers. These are just a few ingredients along with other ingredients found in nature, which the companies use. THERE ARE NO - products other than which are or may be synthetic (which, is based off of reproducing nature, or, natural products) used in commercial prep of cleaning solution including soap.

Your washing machine, I assure you, will not carry scent, germs, etc, on o your next load of wash. Even in cold water.

One can basically make any cleaning product from natural and/or prepared/bulk cheap ingredients.

If you are concerned, put a white cloth in your washer, add a 1/2 cup of bleach or peroxide, set the water to hot, and put through final rinse cycle. From Chemistry 101.
