You have to be careful when home cooking. Unless you know what you're doing, you could omit some important ingredients.

I feed my dogs Orijen, which is ranked among the best out there. I supplement with a home-cooked recipe that I found in a book, but really, I think the Orijen is all they need.

Mine have great appetites. I think some of that is because I feed them at regular times twice a day, and I put the food bowls away if they don't eat. Eventually, they catch on and realize it's not wise to pass up a meal.

Good luck. And keep searching. There are lots of high-quality foods out there. Just stay away from grocery store dog food.
