Panting helps her milk come in and yes, puppies cry. Breezeway is correct about the heating pad also. Look for one that does not have an automatic shut off, place a blanket placed over it and keep it on low.

If you are uncertain the placenta was delivered you need to take the mom to the vet's today and get a oxytocin shot to "clean" her out. She will get deathly ill if a placenta was retained and you do not.

Be sure to check her breasts daily. If any get lumpy or hard...she may be developing mastitis which is an infection which requires immediate veteraninary care.

Mom should be given either a calcium supplement or calcium rich foods as nursing depletes the calcuim stored in their bodies. This is given to prevent eclampsia.

Just a few things to watch out for and not hope I didn't scare you.
