Last time I got a perm was about 10 years ago. I came out ok, the stylist cut my hair too short to begin with, and well, it looked better once it started to grow out.

This time I am going to emphasize I want a soft wavy perm, not curly. How much do you think I should tip?
I usually tip 15% but will give more for an extra good job or if they have done me a favor, like working me in or rescheduling an appointment.

$425?? I wonder if that is what the lady was talking about doing to my hair? If so, I won't be having it done. My hair grows too fast for that amount of money! She wants to straighten it all over so she can style it evenly. I hadn't noticed the Smoothing on that link til you mentioned it. I sure hope that lady doesn't really think I would consider that. I did tip big, but it was Christmas!

To answer the question why do those with curly hair straighten and straight hair curl? ....... (I already forgot who asked!)
I would not mind curly or straight, but my normally straight hair has now gotten patches of curl and wave. Nothing consistent enough to use -- so I just have to fight it and work around it. My curl is hormonal I think -- thyroid removed. That is when I started with the weird combinations of waves & curls along with my usual straight hair. I have some curls so tight they don't look natural and other places look like the old fashioned finger waves (way before your time). The shorter they cut it the more it curls.
