The vet told me to keep her at the weight she is at because she is a perfect weight and if she gets too heavy she's going to have a problem when she gets older. Thank God she's not really a bit eater and she's pretty active. Being that she's a shorkie I never thought of this. It kind of has me a little worried. Anybody ever deal with hip dysplasia?
I'm really happy that she's better and the results of the tests came out good! My son has a Bulldog that he actually got because of his hips. He was a show dog that turned up with dysplasia. They neutered him and actually gave him to us with the agreement that we would do whatever was needed for his hips including hip replacement. He is now eleven years old (which is really old for a bulldog) and is still doing good. My son has always been careful with his activity and his weight. One thing he did was started him on Glucosimine (sp) at an early age and has kept him on it. It's hard to say what effect it's had but we believe it's really helped. It might be worth considering or talking to your vet about.
