This last posting reminds me of an occasion back in the mid-1980's when my cheque card was due for renewal, with the bank I was then with. I didn't want a credit card (still haven't got one!) but the bank I was then with tried to persuade me to complete a credit card application form'because everyone has one'. I told them in no uncertain terms that I'm not 'everyone' I'm me and I don't want a credit card so would they please renew my cheque card which I'd had with them for 10 years with no problems!

It took a whole year for this bank to get it through their thick skulls that i wasn't going to be forced into having a credit card I didn't want, and eventually they issued a new cheque card.

By then I'd changed my bank anyway on principle that the customer's wishes should be paramount in any service organisation to a bank that was prepared to issue a cheque card. My original bank account I closed; I only had less than £1.00 in it anyway.
