@Nancy - I doubt that it was that type of rawhide. They were purchased in bulk at Big Lots. Another red flag for me but some people/vets do not see the problem with them. In fact the fill in vet said that they are so processed these days that they are fine. Personally I don't believe that and Teddi will never have another. One puppy 'oops' is ok but we try very hard to be the best possible parents to our little one. I doubt he will even miss them.
Looking into the bully sticks but am questioning whether those are even necessary too. He likes his nylabones so think we'll stick with those for now. Thanks everyone!! ♥ |
I think I was reading the safety statistics, and it's like one in a million have problems, so most scientists would say that's safe. The problem is when you're dog is that one in a million, why take the risk, when there are safer alternatives? Joey ate them before I read that they were unsafe, and all the dogs I've ever owned ate them and I never had a problem, but when I learned that there "may" be a risk, I decided it wasn't worth it. Everything in life is somewhat of a gamble, and you have to decide if the risks outweigh the benefits. I didn't want you to conclude that your vet was a poor vet just because he handed out rawhides, I think YorkieTalk pet owners just want to be extra cautious.
