I wouldn't go with the children's meds either. In that case you are only treating 1 symptom of the virus, the coughing. If she is coughing to try to clear her lungs, then it can make her sickr. She could also have a fever. I don't recommend meds for people unless it is recommended by a vet. Most of the time a vet will give you an antibiotic for a dog. Dogs can also cough from worms, but it wouldn't be as frequent as what you speak of.
