To many, they are just dogs. It's because they don't understand unconditional love they provide. My family and my bf's family have said similar things your son said, but in a more subtle way. My uncle told me that I'm a slave to my dogs...and that they are JUST dogs...I started explaining to him how it's NOT true. I told him that they were my babies and that I'm their mommy so I'm not a slave.
My bf's cousin was joking about how every time she sees him, there's more dogs.
hmm...maybe it's just me? Even my bf is telling me no more dogs...
