Usually pancreatitis patients can't have food or water by mouth for at least 24 hours. It's a stretch to go ahead and let them have the water. Using Pedialyte instead is a bad idea because there is sugar (dextrose) in it and so you might as well be giving food. The sugar being given when the pancreas needs to rest could present a problem. Ellie's vet and I had just decided that if I thought she was having an episode, this would not be a good choice. IV fluids are best followed by SQ.
