My little yorkie and shih tzu are a major part of my life. In fact I can't be long without them . I do have a special needs son who is nerly all grown up, and doing well. however my "girls" fill in a big hole in my heart that nothing can replace.
What would your son rather you be doing? A lot of people are extremely close to their dogs. I find nothing wrong or strange about it. however, i have know a couple nutty cat ladies ..... but that is a different story all together.
Maybe one of these days your son will know what feelings you have for your baby. Until then try not to take him too seriously.
